There was an agelessness about him, a stillness; on Roose Bolton’s face, rage and joy looked much the same.

did you like the way the show treated shireen's relationship with selyse? selyse doesn't seem to care about her in that scene but in adwd we know she does everything to protect her child

Spoilers, up to ADWD.

Well, let’s stick to what we do know about Selyse, which is not a lot.

We know that GRRM wrote the episode, though I suppose you never know to what extent he wrote any given scene. Let us never forget that awful babies-in-jars debacle; that was poorly done and detrimental to Selyse’s character, I think.

We know that the POV characters who describe Selyse hardly like her, so maybe she’s unduly judged, but we also know that:

  • Selyse is the one, along with Melisandre, who commands that Maester Cressen wear Patchface’s hat and sing (though Stannis is guilty of the former as well)
  • Seylse is an adamant supporter of burning Edric Storm, as she believes it will lift the curse that prevents her and Stannis from having sons.
  • When Jon Snow tells Selyse that wildling women and children are starving at Hardhome, she responds “Let them die.”

Though this doesn’t prove that she would hurt her daughter out of superstition, but it isn’t really that far-fetched, IMO (Don’t forget Alester). The Florents don’t exactly strike me as amazing people, though that could just be Axell curving the stats.

Ok, I’ll go for the quote, cause Jon Snow makes an interesting observation.

“Your Grace,” he persisted stubbornly, “they are starving at Hardhome by the thousands. Many are women—”

“—and children, yes. Very sad.” The queen pulled her daughter closer to her and kissed her cheek. The cheek unmarred by greyscale, Jon did not fail to note.

I will reiterate that Jon Snow is not a huge fan of Selyse at this point, so his observations come with a bias.

There is a chance the “she needs the rod” exchange was solely put in for Stannis’s benefit, or maybe GRRM is giving us a glimpse into Shireen and Selyse’s relationship.

Commonly confused medieval weapons, a powerpoint by me.

THIS is a WAR SCYTHE, a scythe actually used in combat. Notice it is not a useless piece of shit and is an actual functional weapon.

The only reason why death is pictured with a FARMING scythe is because he harvests souls.
